چکیده

In the present investigation various solvents i.e. acetone, chloroform, petroleum ether, methanol, hexane and aqueous extracts of stem, root and flower of Capparis decidua were evaluated for insecticidal activity against the Rhizopertha dominica (Fabr). For evaluation of insecticidal activity different bioassays were conducted and insects were exposed with varying doses of each extract. These have shown very high mortality i.e. 90-95% mortality and were found to be dose dependent. In addition, these extracts have shown very high repellency in R. dominica and significantly deterred large number of insects from feeding that may be influenced by diverse chemicals and different functional groups with volatile property. These extracts also have shown poisoning of stored grain insect R. dominica like a fumigant. Moreover, when adult females of lesser grain borer were exposed with sub-lethal doses these have not only killed the adult insects but also inhibited oviposition in susceptible females and disallow emergence of F individuals by blocking the 1 development. However, the % ODI (oviposition deterrence index) obtained in test females was obtained very high i.e. 40.51% to 81.83%. Therefore, it can be concluded that present plant species possess few active components that may show wider insecticidal performance and efficacy not only against R. dominica but also against all other stored grain insect pests. These can be used as bio-pesticides to control stored grain beetles. For this purpose, constituent’s level study along with structure activity relationships of natural products is to be required.

Evaluation of Standard Loose Plastic Packaging for the Management of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebriondiae)

Three standard foodstuff plastic packaging namely polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyvinylchloride (PVC) were evaluated for management of lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) and red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). Resistance parameters in packaging were recorded as punctures, holes, penetrations, sealing defe...

Influence of temperature on the functional response of Anisopteromalus calandrae (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), a parasitoid of Rhyzopertha dominica (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae)

The functional response of Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard) parasitizing 4th-instar Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) on wheat was estimated over a range of temperatures and host densities. A functional response equation was used in which a quadratic component that included temperature was substituted for handling time. The instantaneous search rate increased with increasing temperatures. The maximum...

INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE AND RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT Efficacies of Spinosad and a Combination of Chlorpyrifos-Methyl and Deltamethrin Against Phosphine-Resistant Rhyzopertha dominica (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) and Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) on Wheat

Highly phosphine-resistant populations of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) have recently been found in Oklahoma grain storage facilities. These Þndings necessitate development of a phosphine resistance management strategy to ensure continued effective use of phosphine. Therefore, we investigated the efÞcacies of tw...

Dispersal of Rhyzopertha dominica (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) in different habitats.

The lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae), a serious pest of stored cereal grains, is widely distributed and has been collected in different habitats in North America, such as those from agricultural and nonagricultural settings. Our objective was to study the dispersal distances and direction of dispersal by R. dominica after external marking using fluorescen...
